Wepener - The DA has asked the office of the Free State MEC for cooperative governance, Olly Mlamleli, to sort out the sewerage problem in Qibing near Wepener.
The DA's Peter Frewen asked Mlamleli to explain how the R1.5 million, that was allocated to fix the sewage problem, was utilized. He says the municipal manager at the Naledi local municipality could be criminally charged for polluting a water source, because the raw sewerage ends up in the Caledon River.
The municipality promised earlier that the sewage problem would be sorted by middle October.
Frewen says raw sewage is still flowing freely in the streets of Qibing, but it seems like the problem in Wepener has been solved. Residents in Wepener have been sitting with the sewerage problem for several years.
The Naledi Municipality could not be reached for comment.
