Potch water crisis continues;full list of designated water tanker areas

───   10:45 Thu, 28 Feb 2013

Dane Beisheim -

Potchefstroom - The water crisis in Potchefstroom will continue for longer than anticipated. This is according to Tlokwe City Council spokesperson, Willie Maphosa. Residents in the North West town have been without water for five days now. Maphosa says the extreme heat is affecting water levels in reservoirs. Consequently, it is taking longer for these levels to rise and pump pressure to increase. All areas west of Potchefstroom, including Dassierand, the Bult, Promosa, Ikageng, Potch Industria, the prison as well as the hospital will remain without water until this weekend at the earliest. In the meantime, Maphosa says the municipality has introduced water restrictions with immediate effect:

Resident's water use will be monitored through meter readings. About 1.2 million litres of water has been tankered to residents thus far. The Council is appealing to people to collect water in one container not exceeding 40 litres or a maximum of two smaller containers. The appeal is largely to expedite quicker movement in queues.
