Durban - Argentina beat the South Africa men’s hockey team 1-0 in the second Test match after the scores were level 0-0 at half-time at Kearsney College in Hillcrest, Durban Thursday afternoon.
The third Test in this five-Test series in KZN is at 3pm Saturday at Queensmead Hockey Stadium in Umbilo, Durban South.
South American champions Argentina scored the winner through a Pedro Ibarra penalty corner midway through the second half (53rd minute).
Three South Africans made their Test debuts, Dylan Coombes, Dean Symons and Nic Spooner, all of Southern Gauteng.
“It was a much tighter Test match and we produced a far better team performance,” said SA captain Rhett Halkett.
“We created some good scoring opportunities and were sharper in defence. Unfortunately, we couldn't get the result we felt we deserved but that is how narrow the margin is on the international stage.
“This young group is learning quickly and we are improving with every game.
“Saturday will be another great opportunity for us to continue along this curve of improvement in order to get the result we desire.”
