Bloemfontein - The South Africa men’s hockey team and Argentina were deadlocked 0-0 at half-time in the fifth and final Test at a sodden University of KwaZulu-Natal Pietermaritzburg campus last night before the South American champions ran out 2-1 winners to complete a 5-0 test series whitewash.
The Argentina deserved to win but did not reflect the tremendous fighting spirit of the South Africans, who stayed in the game through sheer courage as well as a brilliant display in goal by Rassie Pieterse.
Constant pressure saw Argentina open the scoring in the 37th minute through a Facundo Callioni goal before Matias Paredes doubled their lead in the 59th minute.
Taine Paton scored the Proteas sole goal 8 minutes later.
