800 arrested in FS border operation─── 07:48 Sat, 19 Apr 2014
Bloemfontein - About 800 illegal immigrants have been arrested during a law enforcement operation in the Free State.
The operation led by Police, Roads and Transport MEC Butana Komphela and Transport Minister Dipuo Peters took place on the R26 at Ficksburg near Maputsoe border gate and on the N8 near Maseru border gate.
71 people were also arrested for being in possession of drugs and ammunition.
More than 14 000 vehicles were stopped and screened since Wednesday and over 10 000 people were searched.
1 468 fines were issued to motorists for various infringements. 57 vehicles were discontinued and 5 vehicles were impounded.
Komphela also called on motorists to obey traffic rules and regulations at all times.
