Mugabe neighbour fined over roaming dogs

───   12:56 Tue, 01 Jul 2014

Harare - A neighbour of Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe has been fined for allowing his dogs to hunt on the 90-year-old leader's land, state media reported Tuesday.

"President Mugabe's neighbour, Michael Pazarangu, who set dogs to hunt buck at the president's private residence in Borrowdale was yesterday fined $50," The Herald newspaper reported.

If Pazarangu fails to pay the fine he will spend 30 days in jail.

The paper said Pazarangu changed his initial plea of not guilty and admitted the offence.

"This matter has attracted a lot of publicity and has negatively affected me and my family," Pazarangu said, without elaborating.

He was charged with letting his "unmuzzled ferocious dogs roam freely" onto Mugabe's property, where they killed a buck.

Mugabe owns a private house in the plush Borrowdale suburb on the outskirts of the capital Harare.

Early this year, it was the venue for his daughter's elaborate wedding, which was attended by 4,000 guests.
