Police fire rubber bullets at protesting NWU Mafikeng students

───   08:39 Mon, 26 Oct 2015

Potchefstroom - Police have fired rubber bullets and tear gas at protesting students at the North-West University's (NWU) Mafikeng campus as they continue to protest, this time demanding that the university's council must fall.

Students started burning tyres this morning and are blocking the entrance to the university. The campus remains closed today. It has been closed since last week Wednesday as a result of the nationwide #FeesMustFall campaign. Some 41 students were arrested on campus and later released on a warning.

NWU spokesperson, Johan van Zyl, told OFM News that the protesting students are heading towards the university's Potchefstroom campus.
