The winners of the 2012 Sasol New Signatures Competition were recently announced at the Pretoria Art Museum. Presented by the Association of Arts Pretoria, the competition is the longest running national art competition in South Africa and is aimed at new and emerging young artists 18 years and older.
Sasol was also a winner at the BASA Awards in the Sustainable Partnership category for their 23 years support of the competition. Maurice Radebe is the Group Executive member at Sasol. Listen to the podcast right here on my blog "a Slice of Life'.

Art curator at Sasol, Cecile Loedolff, says that this year the entrants focused more on ecological issues incorporating art, craft and design. The evening also saw various entrants showcasing their performance pieces. For Peter Binsbergen, National Chairperson of the Sasol New Signatures selection panels, it is important to take performance pieces in consideration and they will also hopefully focus on collaborations.

The average age of the Top 7 this year are in their mid 30’s and 48-year-old Franschoek-based emerging artist, Ingrid Bolton, was announced the winner for her artwork ‘Un(sea)n’. The runner-up was Mandy Martin for her pieces, ‘Trembling Giant’ and ‘Virgin Pulp’. The Sasol New Signatures exhibition will run at the Pretoria Art Museum until the 30th of September.
