Yes we all remember singing our hearts out in 2002 as the sexy dimples, stutter and spikey hair charmed us during UK Pop Idol and his rendition of “Unchained Melody”. But what happened to Gareth Gates?
At the height of his career in 2002/2003 he was probably one the most famous celebs in the UK. Sadly fame took him on a rough journey of parties, girls and late nights. This tarnished his image and when his second album in 2004 failed to be a chart success – he decided to leave the pop music industry. He also took a 2 year break. In 2008 he divorced
his wife and has only recently started rebuilding his career.
However, today I take you back in time to when he was still a sweet 19 year old. In 2003 he had a hit with the Kumars singing Spirit in the sky.The proceeds of the song went to charity. But after 2003 he disappeared from the music industry. After patching up his image he featured in many West End productions and recently
featured in the UK’s Dancing on Ice.
This year will see him tour with a band called “5th Story”, which formed as a result of a UK reality show called “The Reunion”. The series sees the reunion of many bands from the late 1990’s and early 2000’s such as Five, 911, Atomic Kitten, B*Witched, Blue,Liberty X and A1. All these these bands then joined forces and will be touring the UK towards the end of the year, Gareth Gates is part of the group “5th Story” which consists of 4 other
lead singers from 4 of these bands.
On the 12th of July he will be turning 30 and we can only hope that he would consider returning to pop music.
