Lagos collapse: Rescue teams having 'less restrictions' | News Article

Lagos - Search and Rescue efforts at the collapsed church in Lagos, Nigeria, were able to go ahead with less restrictions today following intervention by South Africa’s ambassador to the region.

Gift of the Givers representative Sheikh Mohammed Jamie says efforts were hampered yesterday and before due to restrictions by church officials. He says rescue workers were given more freedom today after SA officials intervened:

He says the Gift of the Givers team has also visited hospitals and that South African victims are responding well to treatment, with many already having been discharged. Timeslive earlier reported South African Lindiwe Ndwandwe was found uninjured after being trapped under the rubble for five days. She survived by drinking water from a burst pipe.

At least 67 South Africans are thought to have died when a multi-storey guesthouse on the grounds of popular preacher TB Joshua’s Synagogue Church of All Nations collapsed on Friday. Church officials have claimed the collapse was due to low-flying Islamic militant planes.

It appears the church has not yet made available a list of names of everyone who was staying at the guesthouse.
