The inaugural CSA national women’s cricket week got underway in Bloemfontein yesterday with provincial teams from across the country competing.
Northerns set the bar high yesterday when they convincingly beat hosts, the Free State by 157 runs at the Varsity two field.
National captain, Mignon du Preez and Andrie Steyn score 108 and 102 not out respectively as tehey posted 247 for two in their allotted 50 overs.
The Northerns bowlers capped off a dominant performance with an equally dominant bowling display.
Odine Kirsten was the chief destroyer, claiming four wickets for 21, while Maggie Mphahlele took 2 for 30.
Other results saw Western Province beat Eastern Province by 71 runs, Boland beat North West by four wickets and Gauteng edged KwaZulu-Natal by 27 runs.
Free State face Western Province today at the Hickling Field at Saint Andrews’ School and North West take on KwaZulu-Natal at the Varsity.
