Froome on track for 2nd TDF title | News Article

Britain’s Chris Froome has remained on target to to win his second Tour de France title after retaining the leaders’ yellow jersey yesterday.

The Kenyan-born Froome retained the overall lead, despite team BMC winning yesterday’s 28km team time trial from Vannes to Plumelec.

The 2013 Champions still holds a 12 second lead over Tejay van Garderen of BMC with the dreaded Pyrenees mountains looming.

The 26-year-old van Garderen has never finished higher than fifth at the Tour, but so he is also considered to be a genuine contender for the title.

Alberto Contador, who entered the Tour on the back of his second Giro d'Italia win and seventh Grand Tour title, is in fifth place 1 minute 3 seconds behind Froome.

Daniel Teklehaimanot of MTN-Qhubeka still wears the King of the Mountains’ Polka Dot jersey and should prove his worth heading into the Pyrenees and Alps over the next two weeks.

The cyclists are all in Pau and will be recovering during today’s rest day before tackling tomorrow’s 167km tenth stage from Tarbes to La Pierre-Saint-Martin.
