South Africa’s four-time major winner Ernie Els believes his four challenging rounds at the Irish Open was the perfect preparation for next month’s Open Championship at St Andrews.

Els didn’t have the greatest of tournament after firing a final round of one over par to finish on ten over par at a windy Royal County Down.
 
The Big Easy recorded one eagle and eight birdies but also 18 bogeys and a double bogey over the four rounds in his first Irish Open appearance in 17 years.
 
Denmark’s Soren Kjeldsen, held his nerve to become the third Danish winner of the Irish Open after a play-off hole.
 
Kljedsen scored five over par 76 during the final round to take him into a play-off with England’s Eddie Pepperell on two under par.
 
Kjeldsen said he was shaking when he took the winning put on the play-off hole.
 
The Open Championship at the home of golf with be played from 16 to 19 July.
