1. Visit SALT in Sutherland
 
 
 
The Southern African Large Telescope (SALT), located atop a hill, is the largest optical telescope in the southern hemisphere. Guided tours are offered to visitors in addition to a walk-through of the visitor centre. Night tours allow visitors to view the night sky through the dedicated visitor telescopes.

2. Play Golf at Kathu’s Sishen Golf and Country Club
 
 
 
This 500ha course, designed by Robert Grimsdell, is a hidden golfing gem providing lush greenery and breath-taking views. Facilities include a fully stocked pro shop, driving range and club house with dining and bar areas, changing facilities and a restaurant.
 
3. Take The Red Dune Route in Upington
 
 
 
Covering the area from north of Upington all the way to the Namibian border, theses red tunes are home to a variety of wildlife. The route also allows for visitors to partake in dune boarding, 4x4 routes, game drives, camel riding, bird watching and guided walks.

 
4. Go for a Sunset Cruise on Upington’s Sakkie Se Arkie
 
 
 
This two hour sunset cruise offered the opportunity for visitors to the area to unwind and enjoy bird watching while cruising on the peaceful Orange River.
 
5. Visit the Aristea Shipwreck Near Hondeklip Bay
 
 
 
The Aristea was an I&J owned trawler that also served as a minesweeper during World War 2. The ship unfortunately ran aground on 4 July 1945 just south of Hondeklip Bay due to mishandling by its Captain.
 
6. Take a Trip To The Eye of Kuruman
 
 
 
Said to be the largest natural spring in the Southern Hemisphere, The eye of Kuruman can be found at the heart of Kuruman. 20 million litres of crystal clear water streams from the spring on a daily basis. The spring is home to numerous fish species and is surrounded by lush greenery.
 
7. Fly Fish in The Orange River
 
 
 
Fly-fishing camps are run between May and September on the Orange River. The water is ideal fly-fishing water for Large and Small Yellowfish, Barbel and Mudfish.

 
8. Visit The Douglas Wine Cellar
 
 
 
The Douglas Wine Cellar is bud a handful of estates located in the Northern Cape. The cellar was established in 1968 and is a must visit for wine lovers.


9. Visit Kimberley’s William Humphreys Art Gallery
 
 
 
The William Humphreys Art Gallery is considered one of the finest art museums in the country housing. Visitors can expect to view 16th and 17th century Dutch and Flemish Old Masters, French and British paintings, antique furniture and South African works of art.

 
10. View the Lesser Flamingo Breeding Colony at Kamfers Dam in Kimberley
 
 
 
This wetland supports the largest Lesser flamingo breeding colony in Southern Africa having hosted between 60 000 to 80 000 Lesser flamingos (over 50% of the Southern African population). The Kamfers Dam itself hosts more than 2000 birds excluding the flamingos.
