SABC top brass position 'ironic': DA

SABC top brass position 'ironic': DA | News Article

Cape Town - The Democratic Alliance says it is quite ironic that SABC Chairperson Ellen Tshabalala got a court interdict to halt a Parliamentary inquiry into alleged lies about her qualifications the day before the Western Cape High Court ordered the immediate suspension of SABC COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng over similar allegations.

Democratic Alliance MP Gavin Davis says the court today ordered that Motsoeneng immediately be suspended pending the outcome of a disciplinary hearing, as was already recommended by the Public Protector in February.

He says allegations against Motsoeneng range from him lying about a matric certificate to purging staff disloyal to him and artificially inflating salaries of loyalists.
Motsoeneng is also accused of inflating his own salary by nearly one million rand in less than a year after it went up from R1.5-million to R2.4-million per annum.

Commenting on Tshabalala’s court interdict, Davis says the irony of the two cases extends beyond the similarities of certain charges.

Davis explains there will now be a two week period for charges to be finalized and sent to Motsoeneng, where after the disciplinary process must be completed within sixty days.

He says it will be presided over by an independent person.
