Bomb threat causes havoc in Bloemfontein; centre evacuated after numerous phone calls─── 11:22 Thu, 31 Jul 2014
Bloemfontein - A center in Bloemfontein has been evacuated after receiving numerous phone calls by an anonymous source, claiming a bomb would detonate at 11:00 on Thursday morning.
About 200 people within the Southern Center, in Fichardtpark, were evacuated at approximately 10:10, police spokesperson Chaka Morope said.
He confirmed the bomb threat and said the bomb squad, fire brigade and K9 dog-unit are on scene.
An eyewitness on the scene, and employee within the center, says there are about 50 police officials on scene and added that the situation seemed "very serious". Police have widened the parameters of the scene and moved the bystanders further away from the center, the eyewitness said.
