More schools set alight in Kuruman | News Article

Kuruman - The Joe Morolong Road Forum says more schools in Kuruman in the Northern Cape have been set alight.

No schooling has taken place in the John Taolo Gaetsewe District for more than two months, due to violent protests over a stretch of road the community wants tarred.

The forum’s Kagisho Gaborokwe says they want to see pupils return to school as soon as possible, and urged communities not to damage schools.

He says the forum has also asked the education department to step in.

Gaborokwe says Forum members met with trade union Cosatu and the department of public works in an effort to resolve the issue, but to no avail.

He says the same presentation public works made two years ago in terms of sourcing money to construct the road, was made when they met earlier this week.

Basic education minister, Angie Motshekga is meanwhile expected to visit the troubled district next Wednesday.
