Decline in schools not good for quality education: Naptosa─── SABRINA DEAN 15:43 Fri, 22 Aug 2014
Bloemfontein - Teachers’ Union Naptosa says officials must not look for a quick fix when it comes to addressing the declining number of schools in the country.
Spokesperson Louwrens Strydom says the decline in the number of schools is not good news for quality education.
He was reacting to a report released yesterday by the SA Human Rights Commission showing that the number of schools in SA declined by more than 2500 between 2000 and 2012.
Strydom says a lack of community buy-in has also played a large role, adding the decline began after community initiated school processes were replaced by departmental initiated processes in the late nineties.

The report also said that almost 1200, or 47%, of Free State schools had closed during the same period.
OFM News is still waiting for a response from the Free State Education Department.
