Mediclinic regrets student's suicide─── CHRISTAL-LIZE MULLER 18:12 Mon, 15 Sep 2014
Bloemfontein - Mediclinic Bloemfontein regrets the incident in which a 19-year-old Kovsie student jumped to his death from the seventh floor of the hospital this morning.
Hospital spokesperson, Amanda Appelgryn, says the hospital acted fast to clear the scene after the 2nd year education student, Morné van der Westhuizen, committed suicide.
According to Appelgryn the hospital also provided medical and trauma support to all involved after the incident. This includes supporting two bystanders who tried to prevent Morné from jumping.
Morné, who hails from Brandfort, was at the hospital after his girlfriend and fellow UFS student, Chrisna Botha from Lady Grey, was admitted to ICU with multiple injuries including severe head trauma, after a fall from a horse this weekend.
Morné’s brother, De Wet, says his brother and a friend spent last night in Brandfort after they received the news about Botha.
De Wet told OFM news that his brother did not show any signs that he wants to take his own life when he dropped him off at hospital this morning. According to De Wet his brother even walked with him to his vehicle and told him that he loved him when he re-visited Morné at hospital.
Morné leaves behind his brother and parents Louw and Alma.
On April 18 last year 46-year-old Sanli Botha jumped to her death roughly at the same spot.
