Congo fever victim's little boy was treated in same hospital | News Article

Bloemfontein - At the same time that Namibian farmer Kobie Hoffman lost his battle against Congo fever in an isolation ward in the Life Rosepark Hospital in Bloemfontein, his only child, five-year-old Kobus, was being treated for light pneumonia in a different ward.

Hospital spokesperson Esmarié Cronjé says little Kobus was discharged from hospital this morning, only hours after his forty-year-old father’s death.

Louis Jordaan, financial manager of the Hartswater Wine Cellar and brother-in-law of the late Hoffman, says Hoffman and his son were very close. Little Kobus doesn’t fully comprehend that his father is dead.

The boy’s mother Retha is heartbroken.

Jordaan says his brother-in-law was an outstanding farmer in the Aroab district. He matriculated from the former technical high school in Upington.
