Bloemfontein - Batho Clinic outside Bloemfontein is not functioning, due to maladministration.
This is according to the DA’s Mariette Pittaway.
The DA conducted an unannounced oversight visit at the clinic this afternoon.
Pittaway says she discovered that the clinic has been without electricity since May this year and nothing is being done to rectify the problem.
She says ARVs and TB medicine must be stored at a certain temperature and as a result of the clinic not having electricity, HIV and TB patients have been forced to access treatment at Mmabana Phahmeng Clinic which is not in walking distance from Batho. The Batho Clinic can only assist chronic patients and can accommodate family planning.
Pittaway says another worry is the fact that there are only two nurses to help close on forty patients per day.

The clinic also has not received any medical cleaning detergents since June.
Furthermore more than half of the clinic is in disuse due to an unstable ceiling.
Pittaway says to top it all the new toilets constructed in the new wing are in disuse because the contractor installed the wrong sized pipes.
