BFN state mortuary strike affecting removal of bodies | News Article

Bloemfontein - A strike by employees at Bloemfontein's state mortuary is causing delays in the removal of bodies from accident and crime scenes.

Free State police's Billy Jones says a decision to contract private undertakers was taken on Monday after an incident at the weekend where the body of a woman who was killed in a car accident was left in the sun for several hours.

Jones says the problem is mostly around Bloemfontein but adds provincial police management are liasing with station commanders across the province in case they are experiencing similar challenges.

OFM News is meanwhile still waiting for a response from the department of health on details surrounding the strike.

It is still unclear how long the strike has been underway, how widespread it is and what the reasons for it are.
