Drugged, raped and groomed for prostitution; ’true victim failed’─── SABRINA DEAN 17:40 Thu, 20 Nov 2014
A Vanderbijlpark woman who had her conviction for obstructing justice overturned on appeal yesterday, says although she is ecstatic to have her name cleared, she still believes role players have failed the true victim in the whole situation.
Founder of the NGO Crossroads, Anneri du Plessis, was arrested after refusing to take a severely traumatised 13-year-old rape victim to a police station.
The little girl ended up at Crossroads after having been confined, drugged, repeatedly gang-raped and groomed for prostitution for more than six months.
Du Plessis met with the child in Pretoria for the first time again yesterday and says she is devastated that the little girl did not remain in a place of safety and has now returned to prostitution.
She was sentenced to five years suspended and a R12 000 fine.
