Rustenburg - North West Police have warned the public about a recent spate of attacks on unsuspecting motorists by hijackers impersonating police officials.
According to police spokesperson Pelonomi Makau the majority of these incidents have occurred in the Rustenburg area recently.
She says these criminals make use of blue police lights in their vehicles to hijack, murder and in some instances rape female drivers.
Makau says motorists are advised not to respond to, or stop for any vehicles that are not fully marked police vehicles.
She says there has also been an increase in the number of attacks on hitchhikers on various routes in the province
