Bult Retirement Village: Five die in horrific crash | News Article

Bultfontein - Four residents of the Bult Retirement Village in Bultfontein in the Free State died at the scene of an accident this afternoon.

The manager of the village, Gert Bezuidenhout, says the driver and five other passengers were injured when the minibus they were travelling in was hit from behind by a bakkie. He says the accident took place about 6 km outside Bultfontein.

The residents were on their way back after an outing to Florisbad, near Bloemfontein.

Bezuidenhout says it is alleged that a bakkie, driving behind the minibus, wanted to overtake it but had to slack down to get back behind the minibus to make room for an oncoming truck.

He says in the process of getting back, it hit the minibus.

Mediclinic Bloemfontein's Amanda Appelgryn says one patient died shortly after admission.

The driver was taken to Life Rosepark Hospital but has already been discharged.

A nurse who was also on board was traumatised but physically unharmed.

Bezuidenhout told OFM News Lettie Muller, Daan Minnie, Dinie Aschar and Charlotte Lategan died on the scene while Marie Ehlers passed away in hospital.
