Free State Agri budget: DA concerned about government investments─── CHRISTAL-LIZE MULLER 09:06 Wed, 25 Mar 2015
Bloemfontein - The DA in the Free State says the Department of Agriculture continues to invest huge amounts of money into unsustainable projects while many emerging black farmers suffer the consequences.
The DA’s Roy Jankielsohn says too many emerging farmers have invested their own capital to buy land and need support from government in order to create successful commercial ventures.
This comes after acting MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development, Olly Mlamleli, tabled the department’s R744 million
budget in Legislature yesterday.
Jankielsohn says budgets in the Free State overall have shown very little change compared to previous years.
Jankielsohn says the DA continues to be concerned about government money continuing to be invested in the Vrede Milk Project.
About R200 million has been invested by government with few returns.
According to him the DA is waiting for the outcome of the Public Protector’s report in this regard.
