Hertzogville - A diamond miner and murder accused from the Hertzogville district is in a stable condition in the Kimberley Hospital and is communicating after he collapsed in the holding cells of the local Magistrate's Court last Thursday.

Johan Sonnenberg lost consciousness before he was due to appear in court on three charges of murder, as well as a charge of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

He was expected to apply for bail after the decomposed bodies of three men were discovered on his game farm, Diamante.

His lawyer, Hannes Rust, says tests still need to be conducted to establish what caused Sonnenberg to collapse. Rust says at this stage, his client will most likely not appear in court tomorrow, but his wife Elena will appear.

She was arrested at the court on Thursday on a charge of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition and released on R5 000 bail.

Rust says a date for a formal bail application is expected to be set in Sonnenberg’s absence tomorrow.
