North West attacks not xenophobic: Premier | News Article

Klerksdorp - The violent attacks that erupted in North West last week Friday were not related to xenophobia.

This is according to North West Premier and ANC Provincial Chairperson Supra Mahumapelo, after a meeting with community members from Khuma in Stilfontein and Kanana in Klerksdorp.

Mahumapelo was joined by the ANC National Executive Committee’s Humphrey Memezi.

Their visit was spurred by incidents of looting which seemed to target foreign-owned shops.

Mahumapelo however told OFM News this morning that these attacks have little to do with the type of violence against foreigners which has been seen in Durban and Johannesburg recently, and is rather a more common type of criminality.
