Old age home without power for six days | News Article

Brits - The SONOP complex near Brits in North West, a Department of Social Development facility which houses 175 residents consisting of the elderly, mentally ill and disabled, has been without electricity since April 23.

This after the North West Government allegedly repeatedly failed to pay its Eskom account.

According to provincial DA leader Chris Hattingh, North West Public Works Department MEC, Madoda Sambatha, who is responsible for the payment of the Eskom account, simply shrugged it off stating that it was not his responsibility.

Spokesperson for the North West Department of Public Works, George Madoda, however confirmed to OFM News late on Wednesday that the account has been settled.

He could not confirm whether the power supply had been restored, saying various processes must follow to reconnect the power.

He however says the department's finance department has given the assurance that the Eskom account has been paid.
