Awarding of govt tenders to companies owned by govt officers under scrutiny─── 11:21 Sat, 23 May 2015
Bloemfontein - The awarding of government tenders to companies owned by government officers has come under scrutiny again.
This comes after a report by the Portfolio Committee of Public Accounts and Finance was tabled in the Free State Legislature.
The report gives strict deadlines for resolutions taken in respect of some municipalities in the province. Nala Municipality, which includes Wesselsbron, and Moqhaka Municipality, which includes Kroonstad, were ordered to beef up their systems to make sure government and municipal officials do not benefit from tenders.
A written report that also includes investigations into irregular expenditure must be submitted to their respective councils.
Finance MEC Elzabé Rockman said more than 690 companies were removed from the central database for service providers last year after they was found to involve government officials.
