Kuruman killing, first farm murder in NC this year | News Article

Kuruman - Last night's murder of a Kuruman farmer, is the first to occur on a Northern Cape farm this year.

Agri Northern Cape’s General Manager, Henning Myburgh, says the province has been relatively untouched by crime of this nature compared to the number of farm murders in other provinces.

He believes this can be attributed to the fact that criminals find it more difficult to move around because of vast distances.

Myburgh however says the killing of Christo Kruger on his farm Byron, shows the province is not exempt from farm murders.

Head of the organisation’s rural safety, Joe Scholtz, says two farm killings took place in the province last year.

In the first instance a farmer was beaten to death near Van Zylsrus. The second murder took place later in the year when a farmer was shot on his farm near Hartswater.
