Free State's bucket eradication programme riddled with problems─── 07:18 Thu, 18 Jun 2015
Bloemfontein - The Free State has the highest number of bucket toilets in the country and its bucket eradication programme is riddled with problems.
This emerged during an investigation by OFM News' sister publication Bloemfontein Courant, which revealed that Bloemwater, appointed to implement the programme, paid exorbitant prices to replace the bucket toilets and failed to reach its targets. During a meeting in Parliament on Bloemwater's budget and performance plans, the company admitted to paying over R30 000 per toilet.
Free State Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC Olly Mlamleli told OFM News in an exclusive interview that her department is aware of the problems.
DA MPL David van Vuuren indicated that he would ask questions in the Legislature to get to the bottom of the programme's failure.
