Kimberley Girls High saddened by death of pupil in fire─── CHRISTAL-LIZE MULLER 12:35 Mon, 03 Aug 2015
Kimberley - Learners and teachers at Kimberley Girls High School gathered this morning for a minute of silence to remember one of their pupils who died in a house fire over the weekend.
Acting headmaster, Mike Matthews, says he announced 14-year-old Thembi Mtipa’s tragic death during assembly and appealed to all to support the family with dignity.
Matthews says Mtipa died bravely, which speaks a lot about her as person. It doesn’t however take away the great loss.
He says the school has arranged counselling sessions for traumatised learners.

OFM News reported on Saturday that emergency services arrived at the burning house in Monument Heights on Friday at about 23:00. Mtipa’s mother, brother and sister were already outside the burning house while the 14-year-old girl was still inside.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
