FS provincial government salary bill under investigation─── CATHY DLODLO 05:51 Fri, 04 Sep 2015
Bloemfontein - The Free State provincial government’s annual salary bill of R22 billion for approximately 60 000 employees is under investigation by provincial treasury.
Chief executive officer, Godfrey Mahlatsi, says their officials are travelling all over the province to physically verify the appointment of all officials – including teachers, doctors, nurses and social workers.
He was reacting to an announcement by North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo that there are 36 000 ghost workers in his provincial government. Mathlatsi says although the headcount is very costly – it will save the province money in the long run.
