Pretoria - Former Constitutional Court chief justice Pius Langa will receive an official state funeral, the Presidency said on Saturday.
A public prayer service will also be held at the Bryanston Methodist Church on Sunday evening.
Langa died at Johannesburg’s Milpark Hospital on Wednesday after a long illness.
He was 74 at the time of his death.
Presidency Spokesperson Mac Maharaj says the national flag will fly at half-mast from Monday until his funeral on Saturday.
“President Jacob Zuma has declared a special official funeral for the late former chief justice. He was driven by a thirst for equality and justice for all.”
Family spokesperson Muzi Sikhakhane said, “The Langa family wishes to thank everyone from the judiciary to the legal fraternity and everyone who has sent messages of support during this difficult time. It’s been overwhelming and they appreciate it very much.”
