• 1873: William Henry Bell, musician, composer and first director of the South African College of Music, known to his students as 'Daddy Bell', is born in St Albans.
• 1944: "Anna Lucasta" opens on Broadway.
• 1965: Rolling Stones release their single "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction" (their 1st #1 US hit) in the UK.
