Most learners happy with plans to increase pass rate─── LERATO LELIA 11:45 Thu, 28 Aug 2014
Johannesburg - More than 50% of learners think the Department of Education’s plans to increase the minimal pass rate, which is currently at 30% to at least 40%, is a good idea.
This is according to a survey that was conducted by consumer insights company, Pondering Panda.
The survey found that, after being informed of the government’s proposals to raise standards in education, 53% of learners thought it a good idea to have higher standards by raising the bar for passing matric.
Pondering panda spokesperson, Johann van der Merwe says the slight majority could be due to students’ pursuit for better education.
Almost 2 000 learners between the ages of 13 and 24 across the country were part of the survey. The survey also revealed that 61 percent of the learners were not in support of more stringent requirements for university entry.
