'Opposition parties disadvantaged in parliament because of ruling party's majority' | News Article

Durban - Political analyst Sanusha Naidoo believes there will always be a disadvantage for opposition parties in parliament because of the ruling party's majority.

Opposition parties have claimed parliament's Powers and Privileges committee, composed mostly of ANC MPs, is being used to settle political scores.

Yesterday the committee found 20 EFF MPs guilty of misconduct and bringing parliament into disrepute recommending that some of them - including the party's leaders - be suspended from the House for up to 30 days without pay.

The committee's report was adopted last night, effecting the EFF MPs' punishment, for heckling President Zuma during a sitting in August.

Naidoo says people must always expect these kinds of accusations until a fairly balanced party representation is seen in parliament.

The EFF is expected to file an urgent interdict today, to stop the ruling.
