Majority of crashes on N3 Toll route caused by human error | News Article

Heidelberg - The majority of crashes on the N3 Toll Route between Heidelberg in Gauteng and Cedara in KwaZulu Natal are caused by human error and could therefore be reduced significantly.

Spokesperson Andy Visser says human error caused 68% of light vehicle crashes, and 76% of heavy vehicle crashes during 2014. She says adhering to speed limits, keeping safe following distances and limiting distractions such as cellphones can reduce these figures. The N3TC says the number of injury crashes on the N3 Toll Route decreased by 1,9% and fatal crashes decreased with 5,3% in 2014 compared to 2013. The decrease in crashes could be attributed to a variety of interventions such as road blocks, alcohol screening and speed enforcement by all role players to enhance road safety and adherence to traffic laws.
