SAPS distance itself from 'Broken Blue Line 2'─── 18:14 Wed, 28 Jan 2015
Pretoria - The South African Police Service have distanced itself from what it says is a rubbish report by the SA Institute of Race Relations, titled the Broken Blue Line 2".
This follows the Institute's second report on police involvement in criminal activity between April 2011 and January this year.
National Police spokesperson, Solomon Makgale, says the report is not based on research or facts and is also fundamentally flawed. He says the Institute's report is a generalisation about police officials and conclusions are drawn based on newspaper reports.
Makgale says criminality within the police is vigorously dealt with by police management.
The report states that some police members play a major role in perpetrating serious violent crime.

Institute CEO Frans Cronjé says there are simply too many reports and too many allegations to reach any other conclusion.
He says it is with good reason that members of the public often do not trust the police and that some are even afraid of them. South Africans can no longer be sure that when reporting a crime they are not reporting to a criminal in uniform.
