SAPS 'not looking for Jiba' | News Article

Johannesburg - The police were not looking for deputy National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP) Nomgcobo Jiba and had not issued a summons for her arrest, police said on Wednesday.

"The SAPS is not looking for advocate Jiba and has not issued a summons for her to appear in court," Lt-Gen Solomon Makgale said in a statement.

On Tuesday, the National Prosecuting Authority said a summons for Jiba to appear in court on charges of fraud and perjury had been handed to her superior, NDPP Mxolisi Nxasana, as she could not be found.

It required her to appear in the Pretoria Regional Court on April 21, spokesman Velekhaya Mgobhozi said in a statement.

"The NDPP had also earlier tried to contact her a number of times for an unrelated meeting, but she failed to respond."

Makgale said this was not true.

"It is our view that the NPA, who are also complainants in the matter, jumped the gun when they issued a summons against advocate Jiba.

"It is worth mentioning that the issuing of the summons was not done in consultation with the SAPS's investigating officer," he said.
