UNHCR says 7 000 foreigners displaced in KZN | News Article

Durban - The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) says there are about 7 000 displaced foreigners at the three camps in KwaZulu Natal.

About 1 000 are housed in Isipingo and 6 000 in Chatsworth and Phoenix.

The foreigners were displaced following days of xenophobic attacks and looting by locals. The attacks in KZN have left five people dead and have since spread to Gauteng.

UNHCR Southern Africa spokesperson, Tina Ghelli, says only basic shelter is provide for the displaced.
