SALGA to meet Minister over municipalities' debt to Eskom─── 11:24 Fri, 24 Apr 2015
Johannesburg - The national chairperson of the South African Local Government Association (SALGA), Thabo Manyoni is meeting with Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister, Pravin Gordhan, to discuss the possible electricity crisis in municipalities across the country.
This follows after Eskom threatened to cut off the electricity supply to municipalities over massive outstanding debts.
Thirteen municipalities in the Free State form part of a group of more than 50 that had their equitable share withheld from National Treasury because of monies owed to Eskom and Water boards.
Manyoni says while the Mangaung Metro was not part of this group of municipalities, there are other challenges it faces.
