Conference to mark arrest of ANC leaders in 1960's | News Article

Johannesburg - The National Institute for Humanities and Social Science is spearheading a two day conference in Rivonia outside Johannesburg to mark the arrest of leaders of ANC by police in the 1960s.

Some arrested included Walter Sisulu, Govan Mbeki, Raymond Mhlaba and Ahmed Kathrada.

Council chairperson of the Free State Provincial Heritage Resources Authority, Chitja Twala says the conference will be opened by the Minster of Higher Education, Blade Nzimande.

Presentations will include the contribution of Umkhonto we Sizwe to the armed struggle as well as the Labour Movement in 1973, Durban strikes and the formation of trade union federation, Cosatu.
