Cape Town - The body of a Johannesburg man found on Table Mountain almost two weeks ago has been identified.

Henry Harris, 57, was reported missing by the manager of the Camps Bay Resort on June 8, after he failed to return to the hotel.

Dessie Rechner of The Pink Ladies organisation for missing children told News24 the body had since been identified.

Cape Town central police spokesperson Captain Ezra October said the case was still under investigation.

“According to our information, the deceased was a chef from Vereeniging,” he said.

The man bought a single ticket for a trip up the mountain, October confirmed.

“No note was retrieved and nothing sinister is suspected. There were also no witnesses to the incident.”

Once the post mortem and blood reports are concluded, the matter will be referred to the senior state prosecutor, he added.

The man's body was found by a hiker on Thursday June 18.

Police believed the body had not been on the mountain for longer than a few days as it was not badly decomposed.

Harris is thought to have fallen about 200 metres. His body was found in the Arrow Final area on Table Mountain.
