Curro Holdings shrugs off racism claims to record R1bln revenue | News Article

Johannesburg - Private education provider Curro Holdings shrugged off racism claims at one of its schools to report a 37% increase in learner numbers to 28 737 as an increasing number of middle-class parents dig deep to provide quality education for their children.

Curro, which has been in the news for the past few months over racism claims at its Roodeplaat Campus in Pretoria East, announced on Thursday that it had raised revenue in the year to December by 52 percent to R1 billion.

The race row broke earlier this year after black parents signed a petition over separation of learners along racial lines in a class. The fire was fueled when a video surfaced a few weeks ago showing learners on a field trip again being separated along racial lines. The head of the campus has since been fired following an investigation by the Gauteng department of education.

According to its annual report, 66 percent of Curro learners are black while 34% are white.
