Roodt recovering at home─── 09:45 Thu, 30 Jul 2015
Pretoria - Economist Dawie Roodt has been discharged from hospital and is recovering after being stabbed during a robbery at his Pretoria east home, his personal assistant Erika Botha said on Thursday morning.
"He has been well," she told News24.
"He was discharged from hospital yesterday and is recovering at home."
Roodt is a director and chief economist of the Efficient Group.
Botha said doctors were still looking at whether Roodt would need surgery on damage to tendons that control the mobility of his hands and fingers.
Roodt, his wife Marina, their twin toddlers and his adult daughter Danielle were confronted by robbers as the daughter arrived at the gate of their home at around 20:00 last Thursday.
Threatening her with a panga and a revolver, they gained entry to the house.
While the robbery was in progress, there was a power failure in the area and Roodt used the opportunity to try and draw the robbers away from his family by saying he had money in his vehicle in the garage.
Once one of the men followed him to the garage, Roodt attacked him. During the attack, the assailant hit and cut Roodt multiple times. He sustained arm and head injuries.
The other robbers panicked because of the noise and fled the property with the stolen goods, including laptops and handbags.
Roodt eventually jumped the fence and ran to his neighbour for help, before returning to his home.
