Nkandla committee rejects bid to call Madonsela | News Article

Johannesburg – A proposal to call Public Protector Thuli Madonsela to appear before Parliament’s Nkandla ad hoc committee was voted against on Thursday.

Four opposition parties voted for the proposal, and seven against. The proposal was made by IFP MP Narend Singh during a meeting of the committee in Parliament.

FF Plus MP Corné Mulder then proposed that other witnesses be called to appear before the committee - including former public works minister Geoff Doidge, Nkandla architect Minenhle Makhanya, Nkandla project manager Jean Rindel, the quantity surveyor, and the two people who drafted the Special Investigation Unit’s report on Nkandla.

His proposal was also voted against, four to seven.

Before he adjourned the meeting, committee chairperson Cedric Frolick said a draft report on the matter would be compiled and discussed at the next meeting on Tuesday.
