NUM coal sector strike to "continue indefinitely"─── 07:40 Mon, 05 Oct 2015
Johannesburg - About 30 000 National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) members in the coal sector are officially on strike.
They downed tools on Sunday evening after pay hike negotiations collapsed last week. The workers want a 13% percent increase or R1 000 more for the lowest paid worker. The Chamber of mines is offering R300.
NUM spokesperson Livhuwani Mammburu says the strike will continue indefinitely.
Last week, Eskom said as long as the strike does not continue beyond a month it will not affect the country's electricity supply as there is enough coal for 30 days.
