Lichtenburg - North West MEC for Rural, Environment and Agricultural Development Manketsi Tlhape has reassured farmers in the province that government is there for them.

This was during her speech on the final day of Agri North Wests annual Congress in Lictenburg:

'Manketsi Tlhape - partnership'

Newly re-elected President of Agri North West, Pierre Vercueil, meanwhile emphasised that farmers are also ready and willing to do their part:

'Pierre Vercueil'

Responding to a query on the drought in the province and assistance for those hardest hit, Tlhape said they are constantly in communication with the national department:

'Manketsi Tlhape - drought'

Land reform and safety issues also dominated the agenda on day two of the congress. Agri SA's legal, policy and parliamentary representative Annelize Crosby addressed Congress on the Expropriation Bill and other land reform issues. She says she is confident that Agri SA is on top of the issue:

'Annelize Crosby'

Brigadier Judith Le Roux, Section Head of Proactive Policing and Crime Reduction with the SAPS addressed congress on implementation of the Rural Safety Strategy. She highlighted the need for cooperation between all role players, also stating that the recently released SAHRC report into rural safety issues has provided very clear recommendations for police.

She says a summit on rural safety will be held in Gauteng in October during which police will also be conducting surveys to get a detailed picture of the needs and wants of communities, as well as the challenges and areas that need improvement.
